In my class I did a Picasso face on the computer and it was for my reading contract. I went onto www. Picasso I made it by choosing the parts I liked. I then put it on my blog for you to see.

In my class we made a video on Quiver, on the i pad. We could choose to colour in a picture of a pukeko, a snow scene and others. After we had coloured it in we went on the app and put the i pad over the picture and it made the video. The picture started to pop out and move around.

Cave Paintings

I have been learning about cave paintings in my class. I choose this one because it reminds me of animals. Cave paintings were made with with limestone, red ochre, charcoal. They used leaves, sticks, hands and so much more to paint with. They made cave paintings because they wanted to tell stories.

Learning Intention

I was walking back from the dairy and I saw some paper that looked like a ten dollar note. I was so, so excited because it was! I took it home and I didn't tell my mum and dad. The next day I went to the dairy and I got ten lollie pops.

Making Butter

In inquiry we did an experiment. We shook liquid cream in a jar to make butter. I made a book creator about what we did.

Stop Motion Movie

In my class we made a stop motion movie to show the experiment we did with vinegar and baking soda. If the experiment worked it looked like a volcano had erupted. We took photos and then used Stop Motion Movie to make a movie showing our experiment. Ours had a reaction that looked like a huge eruption was happening.

Puppet Pals Movie

In my class we used a new app called Puppet Pals Two. We got to make a video and we got to put characters in it and we also could add cars and horses to it. You could also add sound and music to it. Here is one I made.

Chunky Chalks

What will happen when we mix Plaster of Paris with water?

Plaster of Paris, water, bowl, spoon, measuring cups, 2 plastic bags.

  1. In a bowl tip 2 cups of Plaster of Paris and ¾ cup of water.
  2. Add some dye to colour it.
  3. Stir the mixture until there is are no lumps and it is smooth.
  4. Divide the mixture in half. Put half in one plastic bag and the other half in the other plastic bag.
  5. Take all the air out of the bag and seal it up.
  6. Put the bag on the bench and after an hour make an observation.
  7. Leave there for at least 24 hours.
  8. Open the bag and see what you can do with it.

  1. After an hour we picked up the plastic bag and it felt warm and was starting to go hard.
  2. The next day it was very hard and had formed into a shape.

Gypsum (calcium sulfate) is one of the ingredients of Plaster of Paris. Gypsum is found as a mineral rock. The calcium sulfate is bound together by water which keeps it in its solid form.

When gypsum is heated gently water is lost and the crystals become white powder. When we add water to this powder, the water recombines with the gypsum. As this happens the mixture gets hot (an exothermic chemical reaction occurs) and forms a paste which then sets hard.

Mrs Palmer read us a book about Chunky Chalks. We followed the instructions to make our own.

My favourite thing was mixing it up.

I am going to do some bungee jumping and some other activities like hiking and hunting.  I should get to it. I think I can do the hunting first and I might have to rely on my skills.

In the Heights week 8 Writing Experience

My heart was pumping like a water pump. I was so afraid. I grabbed the tree so hard I could of slide down it like a slide. My face was red and my eyes were shut. I struggled to get free.

Marble Experiment.

Tite: Marble Experiment.

Hypothesis: I think that the tiny marble is going to float for a second then sink.

Materials: water, a cup, and a special marble.

1 Get a cup.
2 Fill it with water.
3 Get small marble and put the marble in the cup filled with water.
4. Wait for a while and sea what happens.

1st There are lots of little air bubbles forming on the inside of the cup.
2nd The marble has soaked up the water, the marble got bigger.
3rd The marble has disappeared.

Result: The marble dropped in pull air in to make bubbles the marble absorbed water as the marble got bigger it pushed the air bubbles out of the way. The marble got bigger got bigger and filled up with more water than plastic. It was invisible.

Adaptation: I would use a bigger cup than the last one to see if the marble got bigger.

Green Pastures Camp

The Mud Run
The mud run is an activity where you need lots of skills to get through it. We had to run in the mud and it was really hard. You have to have old clothes because they get ruined. I did the mud run so fast that I did it 3 times! Mack and Hayz went under the mud and they got mud all over their faces. The mud run was my favourite activity.

Welcome Back To Carlton School

Whoa school is back so you can see all of you friends you can play tag, hide and seek. You can play on the playground and so many more things.  You should bring your togs because we have a large pool. Me and my class go to the pool for four days of the weak so that is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday too.

On every Wednesday me and my class have technology but we do it at school not at Rutherford like we used to. We have been  doing cooking in the hall kitchen and we  have made donuts, pizza and sushi. In the sewing group it is a bit hard but still fun to do. Wood work is hard.

Writing workshop 13

I wrote a narrative story.  Here it is below.

Once upon a time there was a wizard and a dragon. They were fighting on a nearby volcano.
The dragon was using his fire and the wizard was using his powers. Boom, crash. The volcano began to blow.
The dragon and the wizard have to work together to block the volcano because the wizard's hut was near the volcano and the dragons hut was on the others side. They didn’t want their houses to burn down. They saw a giant rock and the wizard used his spell and the dragon used his feet to lift it and put it inside the volcano to stop the lava coming out.

It worked and in the end they became friends.

In the morning I get dressed into my school soccer uniform.  I need to get my ball and shin pads and put my shoes on.  In the car I put on my shin pads.  When I arrive at soccer my Dad helps me to put on my soccer shoes.  I run over to my team ready to play.

Acrostic Poem

Dad and me went to the Splash Centre.
And it was fun and there was a lot of people.
Dad and me live in a big home but in the home it is boring.

Cooking at Rutherford

We have had three lessons at Rutherford about cooking.  One of the hard parts was preparing the food and cooking it.  I learnt how to move around the kitchen when holding a knife.  You have to walk and point it down.  The easy part was eating what we had cooked.  I loved all of it.  I have tried cooking mashed potatoes at home and I would like to try the others.

How to boil and mash potatoes

Ingredients Equipment
2 - 4 Potatoes Potato peeler
1 tsp Salt Pot and lid
Water Stove
15g Butter Knife
Little Milk Chopping board
Potato masher

  1. Peel the potatoes.
  2. Cut the potatoes into quarters (or smaller if the potato is large)
  3. Put the potatoes into the pot.
  4. Cover the potatoes with water and add the salt
  5. Place the lid on the pot.
  6. Turn the element on to high.
  7. Wait for it to come to the boil and then turn it down to simmer.
  8. Cook for about 15 minutes or when they are soft when you poke a knife into them.
  9. Drain water out of the pot.
  10. If you want to serve them boiled then place the potatoes on a plate.
  11. If you want to eat them mashed then add the butter and milk then mash with a potato masher until there are no lumps and it looks smooth.

Potato Bake

Ingredients Equipment
1 potato per person Potato peeler
1 tsp Salt Pot and lid
Water Stove/oven
¼ of an onion Knife
1  T of oil Chopping board
Cream to ¾ fill dish
Grated cheese to cover

  1. Turn the oven on to bake at 200 degrees.
  2. Peel the potatoes.
  3. Slice the potatoes into 5mm slices.
  4. Put the potatoes into the pot.
  5. Cover the potatoes with water and add the salt.
  6. Place the lid on the pot.
  7. Put the pot on the element and turn it on to high.
  8. Wait for it to come to the boil and then turn it down to simmer.
  9. Cook for about 5 to 7 minutes or when they are just soft enough when you poke a knife into them.
  10. While the potatoes are cooking, peel and dice the onion.
  11. Heat the oil in the pan on a medium heat and fry the onion.  (Don’t let it turn brown.
  12. When the potatoes are cooked drain the water out of the pot.
  13. Now put a layer of cooked sliced potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
  14. Sprinkle the onion on next.
  15. Add another layer of potatoes.
  16. Pour over cream so it fills up ½ to ¾ of the dish.
  17. Sprinkle over the grated cheese.
  18. Put it in the oven on the middle rack and cook for approximately 20 minutes or until the potatoes are soft when poked with a knife.
  19. Finally they are ready to eat and enjoy!

1 - 2 potatoes Potato peeler
Salt Pot and lid
⅓ cup flour Stove
1 egg or a little milk Chopping board
Extra flour to use on the bench Potato masher
Pasta sauce Bowl and wooden spoon
Holey spoon
Serves 2


  1. Using 1 - 2 potatoes follow our recipe to make mashed potatoes.
  2. When they are cool put them into a bowl.
  3. Add the flour, the egg or milk and then mix to combine them.
  4. Knead the dough until it forms a ball.
  5. Cut the dough ball into quarters.
  6. Sprinkle flour on the bench and take one quarter of dough.
  7. Roll into a snake about 1 ½ cm thick.  Then cut into 1cm pieces.
  8. Bring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to a boil.
  9. Put the gnocchi (about 8) in the boiling water using a holey spoon.  
  10. Cook the gnocchi for 2 to 4 minutes or until the gnocchi float to the top then cook a further 1 minute.
  11. Remove them with the holey spoon and drain them well.
  12. Serve them with your favourite gnocchi sauce and enjoy!
